Unboxing & Initial Impressions Sophie’s Winter Survival Kit K-Beauty Box Posted on by cbiancardi
Sophie’s Choice Beauty Box is an amazing press sample set out by a brand new private influenster community created by Sophie at Sophie’s Beauty Box . The owner, Sophie Park, reached out to me back in October and asked if I would be interested in receiving a box with Korean skincare and hair care products. I was very interested and said yes to it, and when I received the box, it totally blew away my expectations!! It was brimming full of quality Korean beauty products with some brands I wasn’t even aware of! I promised you that I would create a blog post of all of the products and where you can purchase them (just click on the links), so here it is. Let’s dive into the unboxing and my initial impressions on each product, which were originally posted on my Instagram account. Skin type/concerns: Oily, aging, blemish prone, pores, hyper-pigmentation, fine lines and wrinkles. I received these products complementary to review and was not paid. All reviews are my own honest opinion and I never have been asked to write copy for a brand. This blog post might contain promo codes, affiliate and referral links, which using my links will help generate a small commission that helps support my blog at no extra cost to you.
There were 2 hair care items in here by a new brand to me called Rated Green. The first item is Real Mary Fortifying Scalp Pack with Charcoal , which contains 70% cold brew organic rosemary leaf oil (3500ppm), which stimulates hair follicles and hair growth by enhancing blood circulation to the scalp ~ which will promote healthy, stronger and shiner hair. It also helps with conditioning and soothing your scalp and will clear up dandruff. This also has charcoal to help detox your scalp, unclogging pores and removing excess sebum. There is also tea tree, peppermint, sweet almond, jojoba, sunflower, orange peel, lemon, lavender, basil oils, and ginger, oat kernel and panthenol. This scalp pack doesn’t contain SLS, SLES, parabens and silicon and is great for sensitive scalps too.
This is a nice smooth thick mud green-black scalp pack that smells like rosemary! I love the scent of rosemary ~ do you? After washing my hair, I apply this on my scalp and hair, massage in and leave on for 2 to 3 minutes. Rinse off and I don’t even need to use conditioner afterwards, as this leaves my hair soft and conditioned. I have used this several times already and this doesn’t dry out my scalp or hair, leaves a nice rosemary scent and it removes all of my styling care buildup~ which it does build up, even with normal shampoo and conditioner. I really love this one! Where to Purchase: [ Rated Green Korean Site ]
For the Rated Green products, I cannot find them yet globally, so if you want them, you need to use a shipping service. If you are in Korea, you obviously can order directly from the Korean site. I recommend Korean Buddy (click here ) ~ I have used them many times in the past and have always been pleased with their service. All you have to do is send them the links and they will come up with the product total. You pay them, they get the products, weigh it and then give you the shipping costs. If you have never used Korean Buddy before, you can save 50% off the handling fee by using my blog as a referral https://beautyfindsforme.wordpress.com Real Mary Fortifying Scalp Pack with Charcoal Ingredients (translated by me from Rated Green and all mistakes are mine): rosemary leaf water, glycerin, methylpropanediol, cetyl alcohol, isoamyl laurate, stearyl alcohol, purified water, 1,2-hexanediol, behentrimonium chloride, rosemary leaf oil, charcoal powder, menthol, soybean extract, chamomile flower oil, oat kernel protein, coconut oil, tea tree leaf oil, peppermint oil, olive oil, avocado oil, sweet almond oil, jojoba seed oil, thyme oil, orange peel oil, lemon peel oil, bergamot fruit oil, lavender oil, ginger extract, basil oil, pelargonium graveolens flower oil, sage leaf extract, grapefruit extract, cetyl esters, cetrimonium chloride, ethylhexylglycerin, pentylene glycol, butylene glycol, caprylyl glycol, panthenol, tocopherol, disodium EDTA, sodium benzoate, potassium sorbate cosDNA Top : Real Mary Fortifying Scalp Pack Bottom : Real Shea Moisture Recharging Serum
The next item is Real Shea Moisture Recharging Serum , made with organic shea butter ~ this is certified by ECOCERT. I first thought this was a facial serum and even swatched on my hand, stating it felt really lovely and smooth ~ hahaha ~ but it is a serum for your hair! Shea butter has been used for thousands of years to help moisturize skin and hair. Rated Green uses environmentally friendly, high quality organic shea butter that cultivated and distributed through fair trade, and they use a cold press method to extract the butter, so that the vitamins and nutrients are not lost. This also has hydrating hyaluronic acid and hibiscus, full of vitamin C, phosphorous and carotene, and helps prevent hair loss. This serum has a milky gel-like texture, smells soapy to me ~ and I just run it through the ends of my fine, color-treated hair before I blow dry my hair ~ if you have coarse, curly or thick hair, you can use from the roots to the ends ~ for me, I put serums at the ends as that is where I need the most help. My hair is very smooth at the ends and super shiny!! It isn’t weighed down at all and I did try it all over my hair ~ I don’t recommend that for oily fine hair types, as it is a bit too much. However, I have used this as a night hair care treatment all over my hair and it leaves my hair even more shiny and soft! Are you excited about this brand, Rated Green? So far, it looks like they just specialize in hair care products. I wonder if they will branch out to skincare? Where to Purchase: [ Rated Green Korean Site ] Real Shea Moisture Recharging Serum Ingredients (translated by me from Rated Green and all mistakes are mine): purified water, dimethicone, glycerin, propylene glycol, cyclopentasiloxane, aloe vera leaf juice, orange peel oil, soybean extract, shea butter, safflower extract, hibiscus sabdariffa flower extract, rosehip fruit extract, rose extract, sheeps sorrel extract, aminopropyldimethicone, butylene glycol, acrylate/C10-30 alkyl acrylate crosspolymer, aminomethyl propane, petrolatum, polysilicon-11, pectin, pentylene glycol, 1,2-hexanediol, caprylyl glycol, ethylhexylglycerin, hyaluronic acid, hydrolyzed hyaluronic acid, sodium hyaluronate, xanthan gum, alcohol, disodium EDTA, fragrance cosDNA
I received these two lovely centella centric skincare creams ~ first up, is PureForet Centella Multi Cream , which has the most adorable packaging and logo ~ Centella is also called Tiger’s Grass, as it is known that tigers would roll in patches of centella to help heal their wounds.
Centella is an ancient medical herbal remedy and is used for healing, soothing and calming the skin ~ this contains both centella water and extracts. This also hash anti-aging peptides and vitamin E, hydrating glycerin and sodium hyaluronate, healing houttuynia, moisturizing jojoba, macadamia and shea butter, antiseptic and healing tea tree, BHA willow and salicylic acid. This does have a tea tree scent to it, which I do love and its texture is so lightweight and smooth on my skin. It absorbs quickly, leaving my skin feeling moisturized without being heavy. There is no tacky or sticky residue. Based on its texture, I would say this is more like an emulsion or lotion, and it is great to layer. This is great for oily skinned folks as it doesn’t leave a dewy finish and is one of my absolute favorite items in this box! This comes with a smaller tin so you can decant the larger tin into the smaller one. Where to Purchase: [ Amazon USA | Beauty Tap (use unboxing15 to save 15%) | Full Face Project ] PureForet Centella Multi Cream Ingredients : Centella Asiatica Leaf Water, Propanediol, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Sodium Hyaluronate, Macadamia Ternifolia Seed Oil, Beeswax, Polysorbate 80, rh-Oligopeptide-1(1ppm), Glycerin, 1,2-Hexanediol, Glyceryl Stearate, Sorbitan Sesquioleate, Tocopheryl Acetate, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Stearic Acid, Sodium Polyacrylate, Hydrogenated Polydecene, Cetearyl Alcohol, Arginine, Polygonum Cuspidatum Root Extract, Carbomer, Scutellaria Baicalensis Root Extract, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract, Houttuynia Cordata Extract, Salix Alba (Willow) Bark Extract, Panthenol, Allantoin, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter, Lecithin, Ethylhexylglycerin, Melaleuca Alternifolia (Tea Tree) Leaf Oil, Salicylic Acid, Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Oil, Salvia Sclarea (Clary) Oil, Centella Asiatica Extract cosDNA
The other centella cream is the Georganic Centella Ceramide Moisturizing Balm . Don’t let the name fool you, it isn’t a waxy balm or even a heavy cream. I was scared by the name, but once I opened up this cream, I found it to have a medium weight to it, that absorbs without a tacky residue. This not only has soothing 65% centella, but ceramides, which helps improve your skin’s moisture and elasticity. It also has anti-aging peptides and amino acids, along with moisturizing squalane, shea butter, jojoba and olive oils This has no scent to it and I like using this at night time as it is a bit rich for me during the day time. It does leave my skin supple and very soft! I have not experinecd any blemishes or skin issues with either of these two lovely centella products! Where to Purchase: [ Amazon USA | Full Face Project ] Georganic Centella Ceramide Moisturizing Balm Ingredients: Centella Asiatica Extract(65%), Glycerin(Ecocert Organic), Butrospermum Parkii (Shea)Butter(Ecocert Organic), Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride(Ecocert Natural), Sorbitan Olivate, Cetearyl Olivate(Ecocert Natural), Ceramide NP(1%,10,000), Glycosaminoglycans, Fucoxanthin, Polyglyceryl-10 Stearate(Ecocert Natural), Cetearyl Alcohol(Ecocert Natural), 1,2-Hexanediol, Simmondsia Chinensis(Jojoba) Seed Oil(Ecocert Organic), Olea Europaea(Olive)Fruit Oil, Squalane,sh-Polypeptide-11, Lysolecithin(Ecocert Natural), Sclerotium Gum(Ecocert Natural), Xanthan Gum(Ecocert Natural), Pullulan(Ecocert Natural), Hydroxyethyl Acrylate/Sodium Acryloyldimethyl Taurate Copolymer, Glyceryl Stearate(Ecocert Natural), Beeswax(Ecocert Natural), sh-Oligopeptide-1, Allantoin, Hydrolyzed Pea Protein(Ecocert Natural), Lecithin(Ecocert Natural), Phytosterols(Ecocert Natural), Propanediol(Ecocert Natural), Butylene Glycol(Ecocert Natural), Lysine, Histidine, Arginine,Aspartic Acid, Threonine, Serine, Glutamic Acid, Proline, Glycine, Alanine, Valine, Methionine, Isoleucine, Leucine, Tyrosine, Phenylalanine, Cysteine , Hydrogenated Lecithin, Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate, Panthenol, Sodium Hyaluronate, Water, Hyaluronic Acid(Ecocert Natural), Chlorella Vulgaris Powder, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Powder cosDNA
A floral bouquet of products ~ Nacific Real Floral Calendula To ne r (was Natural Pacific): I used this last year ( review here ) and am happy to get it again! It has lovely calendula petals floating in this toner: This is a very light, watery toner and it doesn’t have much of a scent. They reformulated the ingredients just a little bit, with the notable difference of removing beta-glucan and adding centella. Made with 91% calendula water, this ingredient heals chapped, irritated skin and there are some ingredients that are for those who suffer from oily and/or blemish prone skin ~ tea tree, lavender, rosemary, peppermint, lemongrass and chamomile help soothe, repair, heal and provide antiseptic and antibacterial relief to your skin. I think this is more of a gentle AC Control toner, due to its ingredients and while it does provide a bit of hydration, it seems to be tailored more for healing acne and other skin issues. It doesn’t control oil and it does act like an astringent around my pores. I enjoyed the original toner quite a bit, and this one is pretty much the same as last year’s. It keeps my skin refreshed and clean, while providing healing, soothing properties to my skin. Have you tried this toner yet? What did you think of it? Where to Purchase: [ Amazon USA | YesStyle | StyleKorean ] Nacific Real Floral Calendula Toner Ingredients : Calendula Officinalis Flower Water(91%), Butylene Glycol, Sodium Hyaluronate, Calendula Officinalis Flower Extract, Propanediol, Hydroacetophenone, 1,2-Hexanediol,, Centella Asiatica Extract, Dipropylene Glycol, Melaleuca Alternifolia (Tea Tree) Extract, Rosmarinus Officinalis Extract, Mentha Piperita (Peppermint) Leaf Extract, Cymbopogon Schoenanthus Extract, Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Flower Extract, Anthemis Nobillis Flower Extract, Chrysanthellum Indicum Extract, Allantoin, Calendula Officinalis Flower, Disodium EDTA, Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate cosDNA
Blossom Jeju Pink Camellia Soombi Blooming Vitamin Radiance Booster This is my first Blosson Jeju ITEM!! I love everything about it ~ from the white glass bottle with the rose/rose-gold accents, the lovely lightweight essence, the natural floral scent, which is so delicate and pretty. This contains camelia oil ~ rich in vitamin A (retinol), vitamin E and omega fatty acids ~ this oil will also provide moisture deep into your skin, antioxidant green tea, broccoli, niacinamide and algae to help brighten and smooth skin texture, anti-aging beet root ~ rich in vitamin B3. Healing and calming centella and chamomile will soothe your irritated skin and reduce redness. This does have rose and jasmine oils in it, but they are the last two ingredients in a long list, and I did not have any adverse reaction to this essence. My skin feels hydrated and supple, and helps with overall radiance! It does not leave a sticky or greasy residue and dries down to a satin finish. This is just lovely and one of my favorite things this year! Where to Purchase: [ Glow Recipe (1st time purchase? Use my referral link to save 15%!) | Amazon USA | Skinsider UK ] Blossom Jeju Pink Camellia Soombi Blooming Vitamin Radiance Booster Ingredients: Camellia Japonica Flower Extract, Beta Vulgaris (Beet) Root Extract, Glycerin, Water, Propanediol(EcoCert, Natural Origin), Pentylene Glycol(EcoCert, Natural Origin), Niacinamide, Xanthan Gum, 1,2-Hexanediol, Panthenol, Polyglyceryl-10 Laurate, Caprylyl Glycol, Polyglyceryl-10 Myristate, Citric Acid, Glycyrrhiza Glabra (Licorice) Root Extract, Betaine, Adenosine, Sorbitan Caprylate, Opuntia Ficus-Indica Fruit Extract, Centella Asiatica Extract, Undaria Pinnatifida Extract, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract, Hizikia Fusiforme Extract, Polygonum Cuspidatum Root Extract, Scutellaria Baicalensis Root Extract, Algae Oligosaccharides, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract, Bioflavonoids, Brassica Oleracea Italica (Broccoli) Extract, Ecklonia Cava Extract, Hyaluronic Acid, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Extract, Sargassum Fulvellum Extract, Levulinic Acid, Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Leaf Extract, Citrus Unshiu Peel Extract, Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Skin Extract, Pyrus Malus (Apple) Fruit Extract, Silybum Marianum Extract, Vaccinium Angustifolium (Blueberry) Fruit Extract, ,Rose Flower Oil, Jasmine Oil cosDNA
SkinRX Lab Madecera (Re-Turn) Cream : This is the only product that I dislike in my Sophie’s Box and it is due to the scent ~ a really strong sweet, perfumed floral. If it was more natural and less strongly scented, this would be a favorite, as the cream is actually quite lovely. This formula contains four components extracted from centella asiatica ~ asiaticoside helps form collagen to strengthen your skin and speeds up wound healing. Asiatic acid is an anti-aging compound, that helps to plump up your skin, prevents wrinkles, fine lines and scar tissue. Madecassic acid helps aid in the production of collagen and tissue while madecassoside helps soothe, reduce redness and inflammation and helps heal your skin. Ceramides are lipids (fats) which are important in helping to repair and protect your moisture barrier. Squalane penetrates and absorbs rapidly into your skin and has anti-oxidant properties and there is moisturizing lanolin and olive oil as well in here with brightening niacinamide. This cream fights inflammation, reduces redness while brightening, softening and moisturizing skin. I used this at night, as it was too rich for day time use and I only needed a tiny bit of this product to cover my face. This did leave my skin nice and smooth, not irritated, but my nose was assaulted by the scent. Some people love it, some people hate it. I fell in the latter category Where to Purchase: [ Amazon USA | Soko Glam (1st time purchase? Use my referral link to save 20%!) | Urban Outfitters ] SkinRX Lab Madecera (Re-Turn) Cream Ingredients : Water, Glycerine, Butylene Glycol, Betaine, Niacinamide, 1,2-Hexanediol, Hydrogenated Lecithin, Behenic Acid, Stearic Acid, Myristic Acid, Stearyl Alcohol, Behenyl Alcohol, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil, Arachidyl Alcohol, Arachidyl Glucoside, Cyclopentasiloxane, Diisostearyl Malate, Ceramide NP, PEG-10 Rapeseed Sterol, Glyceryl Stearate, Glycereth-20, Dipropylene Glycol, Glycosyl Trehalose, Panthenol, PEG-100 Stearate, Dimethicone, Dimethicone/PEG-10/15 Crosspolymer, Lauryl PEG-9 Polydimethylsiloxyethyl Dimethicone, Dimethicone/Vinyl, Lanolin, Hydroxyethyl Acrylate/ Sodium Acryloyldimethyl Taurate Copolymer, Squalane, Polysorbate 60, Allantoin, Xanthan Gum, Asiaticoside, Madecassic Acid, Asiatic Acid, Adenosine, Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate, Madecassoside, Fragrance cosDNA
Finally, what is a K-Beauty Box without sheet masks? Huangjisoo Centella Repairing Sheet Mask ~ I have tried Huangjisoo masks before and I had mixed feelings about them ~ I enjoyed the Broccoli mask but really disliked the Tea Tree one, due to the residue. This is made with centella extracts from Jeju Island, to help strengthen and calm your skin, along with ceramides to nourish and moisture your skin. Good ol’ tremella fuciformis (I swear, I will name my next cat fuciformis ~ say it out loud) which is very hydrating and can attract and bind moisture to your skin. This is made with 99.5% vegetable ingredients, organic with no chemical preservatives, vegan friendly and cruelty free. The mask is made with cupra fabric, which is a superior cotton.
The fit on this mask is a bit thicker than most, full of essence that smells like spicy bergamot which I adore. This is surprisingly cooling on my skin and quite refreshing. Once I removed it, it does leave a slight residue but it isn’t as bad as the tea tree version and I just apply skincare products over it. My skin is much more softer and looks very moisturized. This is a great mask to use right before going outside in the color winter air, as it will protect your skin. If you are VERY lucky and do not live in a cold region, this is a lovely right-before-bed mask, as it will keep your skin smooth, soft and moisturized overnight . Where to Purchase: [ Amazon USA | KMall 24 ] Huangjisoo Centella Repairing Sheet Mask Ingredients : water, glycereth-26, tremella fuciformis (mushroom) extract, sodium hyaluronate, aesculus hippocastanum (horse chestnut) extract, butyrospermum parkii (shea butter), glycerin, phaseolus radiatus seed extract, chamomilla recutita (matricaria) flower extract, diospyros kaki leaf extract, centella asiatica (gotu kola) extract, allium sativum (garlic) extract, butylene glycol, lycium chinense fruit extract, aloe barbadensis (aloe vera) leaf extract, morus alba (white mulberry) leaf extract, citrus paradisi (grapefruit) fruit extract, polyglyceryl-10 oleate, glycyrrhiza glabra (licorice) root extract, magnolia kobus bark extract, 1,2-hexanediol, plantago asiatica extract, cyclopentasiloxan, lavandula angustifolia (lavender) extract, sophora angustifolia root extract, ceramide, coco-caprylate, hydrogenated lecithin, houttuynia cordata (tsi) extract, arctium lappa (burdock) root extract, taraxacum officinale (dandelion) extract, ginkgo biloba (maidenhair tree) leaf extract, portulaca oleracea (green purslane) extract, tocopheryl acetate, zanthoxylum piperitum fruit extract, cyclohexasiloxan, xanthan gum, propolis extract, acacia concinna fruit powder, ethylhexylglycerin, beta-glucan, arginine, citrus aurantium bergamia (bergamot) fruit oil, allantoin cosDNA
Forencos pH 5.5. Efficacy AC Sheet Mask ~ I do not believe I have tried anything from Forencos before and I have to say, if this mask is representative of their brand, I am very interested in trying more from them! made from tencel. This is a pH 5.5. AC (acne control ~ took me a long time to figure that one out ~ haha) mask ~ its sheet mask material is made from strong, but thin tencel. This contains hollyhock extract, which is a very soothing ingredient along with centella for healing your skin. This also has lots of other healing and oil controlling ingredients with basil, sage, houttuynia, propolis and eggplant. This mask is dripping with a clear watery essence that smells like herbal tea to me. The scent disappears quickly, but that is what I picked up from it. This is very cooling and refreshing on my skin as I wear it and the fit is really nice as well. It is very hydrating so I could keep it on for 40 minutes and after removing, it dries down quickly. My skin is hydrated and feels really refreshed and this mask does not leave a dewy residue, but instead controls my oils. Where to Purchase: [ Forencos Korean Site * ] * Use a shipping service to order. See my blurb about Korean Buddy earlier in this blog post. Forencos pH 5.5. Efficacy AC Sheet Mask Ingredients: water, glycerin, dipropylene glycol, althaea rosea flower extract, centella asiatica leaf extract, monarda didyma leaf extract, camellia sinensis leaf extract, ocimum basilicum (basil) leaf extract, salvia officinalis (sage) leaf extract, houttuynia cordata extract, bifida ferment lysate, propolis, solanum melongena (eggplant) fruit extract, methylpropanediol, hydroxyacetophenone, choleth-24, allantoin, caprylyl glycol, hydroxyethyl urea, tromethamine, ethylhexylglycerin, butylene glycol, 1,2-heaxanediol, sodium hyaluronate, caprylic/capric triglyceride, hydrogenated lecithin, pentylene glycol, ceramide NP, carbomer, caffeine, disodium EDTA, fragrance cosDNA

The 11 Best Moisturizers For Mature in 2018 | Skincare.com

If you know even one thing about skin care, you’re surely already aware of the importance of moisturizer. After all, it’s one of the most essential aspects of any skin care routine. In fact, as your age advances, moisturizer only becomes more of a necessity. That explains why the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) names applying moisturizer every day as one of their key tips for creating an anti-aging skin care routine . The AAD shares that since moisturizer helps trap water in your skin, the extra moisture can reduce the appearance of fine lines and brighten your complexion. While that may hint at the idea that any moisturizer will do, if you have mature skin, it’s better to use a face lotion or cream that’s formulated to target signs of aging. If you’ve seen the signs and realized it’s time to lay the moisturizer that worked for you in your youth to rest, keep reading. We’re sharing our picks of the best moisturizers for mature skin, from the L’Oréal portfolio of brands, below.
1. Lancôme Rénergie Lift Multi-Action Ultra Moisturizer Moisturizer may not be far from qualifying as an anti-aging miracle, but there’s still a way to take it to the next level—by adding SPF. According to the AAD , dermatologists agree that sunscreen and moisturizer are the two most effective anti-aging products you can get your hands on. It’s up to you whether you’d rather layer sunscreen over your mature skin moisturizer, or opt for a product that offers hydration and sun protection all at once. If the latter catches your interest, you—and your complexion—may be a match for the Lancôme Rénergie Lift Multi-Action Ultra Moisturizer . In addition to providing broad spectrum SPF 30, the moisturizer also helps correct the look of dark spots, which those with mature skin are likely all too familiar with.
2. Kiehl’s Rosa Arctica Skin care products are never about just a single ingredient, what matters is the formula as a whole. Despite that, sometimes we can’t help but have an ingredient spark our interest in a particular product, and that’s the case with Kiehl’s Rosa Arctica . When you hear the name “regeneration flower”, it undeniably sounds promising in terms of anti-aging. Since Kiehl’s Rosa Arctica is formulated with a rare regeneration flower (among other important ingredients), it’s a promising anti-aging pick. Our instincts about the moisturizer prove accurate, seeing as the rehydrating reactivation cream helps skin to recover from dehydration, which can be responsible for everything from loss of firmness to lines and wrinkles.
3. L’Oréal Paris Age Perfect Cell Renewal Rosy Tone Moisturizer Catch sight of yourself in the mirror and you might notice you don’t look quite the same as you used to. Beyond wrinkles and volume loss, the change you see could be that your skin has taken on a different tone. That isn’t to say you’ve gone from fair to deep or vice versa, but that you may be missing the natural pink tone that’s indicative of youthful skin. Simply take a look in your family photo album and you’ll see, as a child your cheeks were marked with a rosy flush. Thankfully, that flush doesn’t have to be gone forever. The L’Oréal Paris Age Perfect Cell Renewal Rosy Tone Moisturizer is enhanced with rosy pigments to instantly revive skin’s rosy tone , leaving skin looking healthier and visibly younger overtime.
4. Garnier SkinActive Ultra-Lift 2-in-1 Serum + Moisturizer If you’re an anti-aging skin care beginner, we have good news for you. There’s no need to worry that you’ll have to fill your regimen with a seemingly endless number of products. You can play it smart when changing up your skin care routine and select products that serve more than one purpose. The Garnier SkinActive Ultra-Lift 2-in-1 Serum + Moisturizer is a prime example, since it’s more than just a moisturizer—it’s a serum too. The multi-tasking, time-saving product features a swirl of fast-absorbing serum and moisturizer that effectively reduce signs of aging. Formulated with vitamin E and Pro-Retinol, it intensely hydrates while fighting wrinkles and improving elasticity for a younger look.
5. Biotherm Blue Therapy Night You may roll your eyes every time someone says to get beauty rest, but it’s nothing to turn your nose up at. The AAD confirms that beauty sleep is real, as it gives your body time to refresh and renew itself. To make the most of this time, make sure you’re using an anti-aging moisturizer at night too. To get more specific, use an anti-aging night cream. The Biotherm Blue Therapy Night is meant to be used before bed, as skin is better able to recover when it’s exposed to fewer external aggressors. When you’re just about ready to slip between the sheets, smooth it over your skin to act on lack of firmness and visibly improve your skin’s texture . Then, you can wake up to beautiful-looking skin, morning after morning.
6. Biotherm Blue Therapy Accelerated Cream Treat your skin to a burst of cooling comfort with Biotherm’s Blue Therapy Accelerated Cream. This gel-based anti-aging cream refreshes your skin upon initial contact while also working to give your skin a more youthful-looking glow over time. This formula is hydrating, revitalizing, and firming, so it truly fits the bill for an ideal anti-aging cream.
Biotherm Blue Therapy Accelerated Cream , $72 MSRP
7. CeraVe Skin Renewing Day Cream Start your morning on the right foot with an effective day cream that can help protect skin against sun damage while improving the appearance of signs of aging—think: fine lines, wrinkles, rough texture, and radiance—at the same time. CeraVe’s Skin Renewing Day Cream is formulated with broad-spectrum SPF, encapsulated retinol, ceramides, and hyaluronic acid. It packs a serious anti-aging punch without irritating the skin or causing unwanted dryness.
CeraVe Skin Renewing Day Cream, $12.69 MSRP
8. Lancôme Absolue Precious Cells Night Cream Want to wake up to a visibly revitalized complexion? Opt for a potent night cream such as Lancôme’s Absolue Previous Cells Night Cream. This visibly repairing and recovering night moisturizer will leave your complexion with a youthful-looking glow night after night.
Lancôme Absolue Previous Cells Night Cream , $192 MSRP
9. Kiehl’s Super Multi-Corrective Cream For an anti-aging facial cream that helps visibly reduce wrinkles and fine lines, look to Kiehl’s Super Multi-Corrective Cream. The formula—with beech tree extract, and jasmonic and hyaluronic acids—visibly lifts, firms, and retexturizes skin.
Kiehl’s Super Multi-Corrective Cream , $64 MSRP
10. La Roche-Posay Active C10 Vitamin C Wrinkle Cream With 10% vitamin C, hyaluronic acid, and antioxidants, this wrinkle cream can help reduce the look of fine lines and wrinkles, while also targeting the signs of dullness and uneven skin tone.
La Roche-Posay Active C10 Vitamin C Wrinkle Cream , $52.99 MSRP
11. L’Oréal Paris Anti-Wrinkle Firming Day Cream SPF 25 This anti-wrinkle and firming cream protects your skin from sun damage thanks to the inclusion of broad-spectrum SPF 25. It’s also fortified with Pro-Retinol A and Stimuplex, and can help increase skin cell turnover and deliver smoother, firmer skin in just four weeks.
L’Oréal Paris Anti-Wrinkle Firming Day Cream SPF 25 , $17.99 MSRP

Facial Serums May Give You a Flawless Skin

jacquiodell Beauty
Your skin especially that of your face is a major element of your overall beauty and personality. This is a Divine gift which keeps you fresh as far as you keep it fresh with your special care. The only way to keep your skin fresh and lively is to keep taking care of it. This is because you have no control over aging, pollution in your surroundings and the worries and anxieties of life. What you can do is to try hardest to ward off their negative impacts of on your skin and life. Though there are so many different items available for this purpose, serums like best hyaluronic acid serum , etc. are the best so far.
What is a serum?
A serum is a synthetic, light and fast-absorbing liquid used as an alternative or in addition to creams or lotions. It leaves out airtight moisturizing ingredients such as petroleum or mineral oil which keep water from evaporating. Nut or seed oils are the lubricating and thickening agents found in a serum. At the same time, totally water-based serums are also there, eliminating oils altogether. And this is the major difference between a serum and a cream or a lotion. Creams and lotions do contain oils as essential ingredients whereas serums leave them out and contain substances like ferulic acid, kojic acid, hyaluronic acid, etc. Moreover, serums also contain the strongest dose of anti aging ingredients: antioxidants, peptides, skin brighteners, etc.
What do experts say about serums?
A lot of skin care experts prefer serums as their top pick. Ni’Kita Wilson is a cosmetic chemist and vice president of research and innovation at Englewood Lab. She always chooses a serum instead of a cream saying,” It works better for my oily skin, and it has every ingredient I need”. She further says,” The beauty of a serum is that most of the liquid is eliminated leaving with you a high concentration of active ingredients, the true workhorses of any product line”.
The owner of Veronica Skin and Body Care Center in Malibu, Esthetician Veronica Barton-Shwartz, is also a fan of serums. She is of the view that,” I think everyone is doing his or her skin a disservice if he or she does not have a great serum”.
Jessica Wu, MD, dermatologist and the author of Feed Your Face recommends serums to many of her patients. She says,“ They are great for people with oily skin or those who prefer a weightless feel to their skin care products. Serums have a non-greasy finish and they don’t leave behind a sticky residue.
Major benefits of serums
Though serums are, admittedly, very costly, they are highly efficient even in small amounts. If properly applied, just a 1-ounce bottle may last for months. Only a few concentrated drops are highly efficient. Serums are made of very tiny molecules which get absorbed in the skin quickly and deeply. Layered under any moisturizer, a serum may be used as an add-on to your skin. Serums smoother fine line and wrinkles and, hence, reduce age spots.
In short, we can see that facial serums may give you a flawless skin if you trust and use them properly.

23 Dangerous Chemicals You Need to Avoid in Your Body Cream and Makeup Products

We are still learning on ways to take good care of our skin and protect it from damages and infections. If you are just seeing this post, please take your time and read our previous posts on skin health.
First Post: 22 Dangerous Habits Damaging Your Skin , click here .
Second Post: Dangerous Skin Problems Caused by Hydroquinone , click here .
There are lots of chemicals in your body creams and makeup that gets absorbed into your bloodstream via the tiny pores on the surface of your skin.
Some of them are dangerous and carcinogenic ad they cause a lot of health problems when inside your body in high concentrations. A way to prevent this is to look at your skin care labels very well before purchasing them.
It is not only food labels we look at. We look at labels on your body creams, hair creams, makeup products, and even soaps. Most of these chemicals present in these products are harmful to your body.
The cosmetic and beauty industry is highly unregulated and only a tiny test and approval is carried out on ingredients classified as drugs (over-the-counter drugs) such as color additives.
There is no testing of products or approval before they enter the market, and most of these chemicals used in producing these creams, lotions, and makeups are harmful.
They induce skin irritation , skin damage, and skin cancer because they are carcinogenic. They penetrate deep into your skin, enter your bloodstream and disrupt the functions of your endocrine system.
There are a lot of harmful chemicals that we should avoid, I will be giving 23 of them in this post.
Harmful Chemicals to Avoid in Your Creams and Makeup Parabens
Parabens are present in a lot of skin care products , makeups, roll-on, face cleansers, body washes, shampoos, deodorants, and even baby wipes. They serve as preservatives and they prevent the growth of harmful microbes like yeast, bacteria, and moulds.
They are actually put in these products for good but they cause more harm than good. The side effects of parabens are more than its good functions.
Parabens can mimic estrogen and this property increases your risks of breast cancer. Parabens have been identified in biopsy samples from breast tumors. Phthalates
Phthalates are chemicals that are used to increase the softness and flexibility of plastics and they are used in lot products.
The main phthalates used in cosmetics are dibutyl phthalates used in making nail polish, diethyl phthalates used in making lotions, and perfumes and dimethyl phthalates used in making hair spray.
Phthalates are endocrine disruptors and they increase your risks of breast cancer. They also cause early development in girls and they induce reproductive birth defects in both males and females.
One scary thing about this substance phthalates is that it is not disclosed in the labels of these products, they include it under fragrances. We will talk on fragrance in a moment. This is not good and it is unfair to a lot of people using these products.
This great loophole in the law should be corrected and phthalates should be indicated in the labels if the products contain them so that people can be aware of what they are using.
Phthalates can be found in many products such as body lotions and moisturizers, perfumes, cologne, deodorants, and hair sprays. Formaldehyde
Many cosmetic and skin care products contain Formaldehyde and formaldehyde-releasing preservatives. They are added to prevent the growth of bacteria.
The International Agency for Research on Carcinogen has named formaldehyde a carcinogen and has linked it to occupational caused cancers such as cancers of the nose and nasopharyngeal.
It is harmful to your immune system and it causes skin allergies, formaldehyde is used in making nail polish, shampoos, conditioners, body washes, eye shadows, face cleansers, and treatments for nail polish. Propylene Glycol
This is an organic alcohol used as a skin-conditioning agent. It can penetrate deep into your skin and cause irritation.
It is also linked to dermatitis and hives even when present in skin care products at 2% concentration.
You can find this chemical in makeup products, moisturizers, shampoos, conditioners, hair sprays, and sunscreen. Fragrance
This is a dangerous additive to body care products. Fragrance is a company’s “secret formula” which is a concoction containing lots of chemicals that are harmful to your health. This secret formula is not supposed to be listed on the label.
Fragrant mixtures induce skin allergies , respiratory distress, dermatitis, and even potential reproductive problems. Fragrances are found in body washes, moisturizers, perfumes, shampoo, conditioner, and cologne. Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) and Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES)
This is a surfactant present in more than 90% of skin care products and even cleaning products (those that produce foam).
SLS is a skin, eye, and lung irritant and it can combine with other chemicals to form nitrosamine, a dangerous carcinogen.
These combinations can induce a lot of health problems and complications like respiratory problems and kidney damage.
SLS and SLES are used in making face and body cleansers, body wash, mascara, shampoos, and creams used for treating acne. Toluene
This chemical is derived from petroleum and coal tar. It is labeled on products as Benzene, Methylbenzene, Phenylbenzene, and Toluol.
This is a powerful solvent that can dissolve paint and paint thinner. It causes respiratory problems, it irritates your skin and also causes nausea.
Pregnant women should avoid this hazardous chemical as it can induce fetus damage and it also leads to toxicity of the immune system.
Products containing toluene are nail polish, bleaching creams, hair dyes/colors, and nail treatments. Sunscreen Chemicals
Chemicals used in making sunscreens to absorb harmful UV light are dangerous. They disrupt your endocrine system and they can be easily absorbed into the body.
These chemicals cause skin cancer and cellular damage. They increase the risks of cancer than even the UV light itself and the rate of skin cancer is higher in people who use sunscreens that those who don’t.
Common names of these sunscreen chemicals which you will find on the labels are homosalate, ethoxycinnmate, and avobenzone. Triclosan
This is a synthetic chemical added to skin products to fight the growth of microbes but it is harmful because it is an endocrine disruptor.
It damages your thyroid gland, a very important organ in your endocrine system, it is a skin irritant and it also disrupts your reproductive hormones thereby leading to infertility.
This chemical also makes bacteria resistant to antibiotics and it is one of the causes of antibiotic resistance. You can find triclosan in antibacterial soaps and detergents, deodorants, and toothpastes. Synthetic Colors
Synthetic colors are used to color these products and make them attractive. They are labeled as “FD&C” or D&C, if you see these on your product, know that these are artificial colors and they are harmful.
These letters precede a color and a number, for instance D&C Red 27 or FD&C Blue 1. F stands for Food while D&C stands for Drugs and Cosmetics.
These artificial colors are derived from coal tar and petrol. Studies have shown that they are human carcinogen, they cause skin irritation and induce ADHD in children.
Synthetic colors are banned in the European Union and some organizations like the European Classification and Labeling considers artificial colors as human carcinogens. Mineral Oil
This ingredient is also known as petroleum jelly or petrolatum. This is the most commonly used ingredients in the cosmetic industry because it is very cheap and very easy to obtain.
It is colorless, odorless and has a long shelf life. It is added to body care products because it is said to be a superb moisturizing agent and it is found abundantly in shampoos, hair creams, hair serums, facial creams, and body lotions.
Though mineral oil has been certified safe by the FDA, it can harm your body if is not well purified. It can contain traces of benzene which is extremely hazardous for your health and it is a known carcinogen.
Some health experts consider mineral oil to be a foreign substance (xenohormones) and it interferes with the functions of your endocrine system. This will impair your immune system negatively. Heavy Metals
Heavy metals also known as Metalloestrogens are used in making anti-perspirant, skin whiteners, lightening agents and colorants. Common heavy metals used in cosmetics and skin care products are mercury, iron, lead, chromium, aluminium, zinc, and mercury.
These metals disrupt the activities of your hormone and they cause hormonal imbalance. It takes your body a lot of time and energy to get rid of them, so the more you use products containing heavy metals, the more harm you are inflicting on your body.
High levels of these heavy metals in the body have been linked to infertility and reproductive problems, damaged immune system, allergic reaction, and cancer.
The use of heavy metals in products has been banned in the European Union, Japan, and Canada and the use is restricted in the U.S.
Heavy metals are used in making lipsticks, nail polish, whitening toothpaste, foundations, eyeliner, blush, eye shadows, sunscreens, moisturizers, eye drops, concealer, etc. Borates
These are compounds that contain boron and they are labeled as sodium borate (borax and also known as sodium tetraborate, or disodium tetraborate), perboric acid, sodium perborate, and boric acid.
It is used as a preservative and emulsifying agent. It stabilizes the combination of ingredients used in products like body washes, body creams and lotions, bathing soaps, shampoos, and teeth whitening products.
In studies, animals that were exposed to these compounds developed shrunken testes and low sperm count while the females experienced birth defects.
It also caused mutations in hamster cells by inducing chromosomal rearrangements. European Union has banned Borate and the government of Canada advises the citizens against the use of these chemicals. BHA and BHT
BHA is the short form for butylated hydroxyanisole while BHT stands for butylated hydroxytoluene. They serve as preservatives in beauty products and it is listed as a carcinogen by the United State National Toxicology Program.
It is used in oily makeup and lipsticks and eye shadows. Studies were conducted and lab animals that were exposed to BHA developed liver damage, stomach disorder, reproductive problems and thyroid dysfunctions.
BHT causes liver and kidney damage but not cancer. Polyethylene Glycols
Polyethylene glycols also known as PEGs are derived from petroleum and they are added to body creams and lotions because they help to lubricate and soften your skin.
It also enables other active ingredients to be properly absorbed into your skin and it allows oil and water-based ingredients to mix properly.
Though PEGs have extremely low toxicity, they can be contaminated with carcinogens like 1,4-dioxane and ethylene oxide. These carcinogens enter your bloodstream via your skin pores, they interfere with your growth and development and they also have a toxic effect on your brain. Hydroquinone
This is a skin lightening pigment added to body creams, soaps, and lotions. It causes a lot of skin problems like ochronosis, infertility, DNA mutations, and the development of tumors.
We have said a lot about this dangerous chemical in one of our post, click here . Talc
This is a common ingredient used in making deodorants and body powders like baby powders and face powders. It is a carcinogen that has been linked to cancer of the ovaries.
When you inhale it, it accumulates in your lungs and cause respiratory problems and disorders. Thousands of babies die each year or become critically ill since the early 1980s just from inhaling baby powder.
Talc gotten from talc rocks is used in powders because it has anti-moisture properties. It is also used in making some drugs like antacids because it is resistant to moisture and it is also used in making pesticides and insecticides.
Scientists found particle of talc in tumors of the ovaries and they discovered that women with ovarian cancer used more talc products in their genital regions than women who don’t have ovarian cancer.
Talc is related to asbestos, a powerful carcinogen and it causes cancer in the lungs and ovaries. Phenoxyethanol
With the recent talks and protest against the use of parabens in body care products. Many companies started labeling their products “paraben free” but most of these products labeled this way contain Phenoxyethanol.
This is used as an antibacterial because it can stop the growth of bacteria in products and it is used as a substitute for parabens or it can also be used in conjunction with paraben.
This substance is a skin irritant, it triggers eczema and induces severe allergic reactions. Next time you want to buy a body cream or body lotion, while checking for parabens, remember to check for Phenoxyethanol. Dimethicone
This is a polymer made from silicon and used in making cosmetics because it gives a smooth and soft feel to your hair and skin. It is used in making face serums, facial moisturizers, makeup, hair creams, body moisturizers, sunscreens, anti-aging products and acne products.
It causes acne and other types of skin irritation because it prevents your pores from absorbing moisture from the air and it releases toxins into your bloodstream. Methylisothiazolinone
This is a powerful and commonly used preservative in the cosmetic industry. It has other cousins namely benzisothiazolinone and methylchloroisothiazolinone and it can be used in conjunction with these two.
It is a powerful biocide, it kills and suppresses the growth of bacteria and fungi and it is also a strong sensitizer and strong irritant. It is responsible for a lot of allergic reactions, nerve damage, and contact dermatitis.
Studies have shown that these substances are toxic, they impair developing neurons even in very low concentrations. Avoid products containing these ingredients. Retinol and Retinyl Palmitate
These substances are known as synthetic vitamin A. It is considered safe and it also help reduce skin wrinkles and other skin problems but it has a lot of negative effects too.
It is bad for pregnant women, because it fetal damage, tumors, and DNA damage. It is mostly found n body moisturizers and anti-aging body creams. Coal Tar and Colors Derived from Coal Tar
Coal tar is gotten from burnt bituminous coal and it is used in making anti-dandruff shampoo and body creams. Coal tar causes cancer of the skin, liver and lungs and also DNA mutations.
It also blocks the pores of your skin and increases your sensitivity to light. Hair dyes made with coal tar are usually labeled D&C and FD&C. Oxybenzone
This is a major ingredient used in making sunscreens, but this substance is a potent carcinogen and it mimics your hormones and causes a lot of problems.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported in 2008 nearly all Americans are contaminated with oxybenzone. It penetrates deep into your skin and produces free radicals when your skin is exposed to sunlight. It is a potent carcinogen.
Other dangerous chemicals that we need to avoid are: DEA/TEA/MEA: these are foaming agents used in making shampoos, soaps, and body washes. They are toxic. Ethoxylated surfactants: they are added to reduce the harshness of other chemicals. They are toxic, they are found in baby soaps and washes. Avoid products with ingredients containing the letters “ETH”. Paraphenylenediamine (PPD): used in making hair dyes. It is toxic and it affects your skin and immune system. Placental extracts: they disrupt your endocrine system. To see more of these chemicals that you should avoid, click here .
What’s Next?
It is impossible to avoid all these synthetic chemicals, so one of the best ways to protect yourself is to use natural products and reduce the number of products you use on your skin.
You should also eat healthy foods and drink lots of clean water. This will help your body detoxify and eliminate all these chemicals present in your bloodstream.
Eat lots of fruits, vegetables and herbs, like ginger, watermelon, lemon, limes, garlic, etc. drink lots of herbal teas like green tea, ginger and lemon tea, apple cider vinegar, lemon water, and raw honey.
You should also read a lot on health, make your own research. Information is cheap these days and don’t forget that Google is your friend.
Always remember, what you put on your skin goes into your body.
Are They Healthy Alternatives to These Harmful Ingredients?
There are a lot of powerful natural alternatives to this and a lot of natural remedies for skin problems. They are safe, effective and potent and they do not give side effects.
Some of them are: Licorice root and vitamin C Lemon water Cocoa butter, mango butter, shea butter Carrots Lime Etc.

Packed with 100 percent natural exfoliants, extracts, and moisturizers, St. Ives’ skincare products include face scrubs, lotions, moisturizers, and body wash, available in leading supermarkets and groceries nationwide. They might be miniscule in size, but pores are telling of the look, feel and health of your skin. Millions of pores make up the body, but the rule is this: the more invisible pores are, the better.
Everyone wants to maintain the supple skin quality we had as babies, but reality bites—growing older means sagging skin and enlarged pores.
Scientifically-formulated products such as Céleteque DermoScience Advanced Anti-Aging Pore Tightening Serum helps reduce pore size and make the skin instantly more youthful. Women aged 30 to 60 years old underwent a double-blind clinical trial of the product, and the test confirmed its promised results: the serum tightens pores while reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles by increasing the skin’s elasticity, making it look smoother and more refined.
Tightened pores are the effect of Niacinamide, an ingredient that improves the skin’s firmness, while the smooth, supple feel of powerless skin is achieved through Alpha-lipioc Acid, normalizing oil secretion through the skin. Finally, Salicylic Acid seals the deal as it removes dead skin cells, dirt and oil—major culprits and weighing down and therefor stretching the pores. Thailand is not only the country hosting Miss Universe 2018; it is also home to Namu Life SnailWhite founded by Sarawut Pornpatanaruk, who sold more than two million units in Thailand of his growing SnailWhite range of 22 products, making the brand’s Moisture Facial Cream arguably the number one in Thailand.
The secret is in the brand’s snail potion formula, which incorporates snail secretion filtrate, derived from mature helix snails before they were sent back to nature. The potion is combined with natural plant extracts to make skin look brighter, healthier and firmer.
Snail mucin contains collagen similar to humans for skin renewal and visibly lessened fine lines and wrinkles.
Apart from the facial cream for even skin tone and lessened dark spots, the brand also introduces its Whipp soap for “no friction cleansing” as it is wrapped in fine UltraWeave Mesh net for a foamy lather to prevent skin irritation.
Available in Watsons, The SM Store, Lazada, BeautyMNL, Shopee and Watsons.com.ph, the brand is represented in the Philippines by actresses Kris Aquino and Erich Gonzales as endorsers. Achieving the beautiful feel of healthy skin is the aim of every skincare regimen and makeup routine and it can be done most effectively only through the integration of skincare and quality makeup.
Available at Beauty Bar, Japanese brand Koh Gen Do has found a way to integrate skincare that stimulates and supports the skin’s natural restorative functions with a base makeup line that’s now loved by women, including famous actresses.
Jennifer Lawrence, Blake Lively, and Jessica Alba are among many A- list Hollywood celebrities who use and swear by its products. More and more women around the world are trusting the benefits of Koh Gen Do’s integrated skincare and makeup that’s available in several countries apart from the USA, including Korea, China, Hong Kong, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, Australia, and of course the Philippines.
Being privy to the celebrity beauty secret, Filipinas now have three new products that include the Maifanshi Aqua Foundation, Cleansing Water and Face Mist.
Maifanshi Aqua helps you achieve the same flawless, glowing result after getting a facial treatment with a new weightless, budge-proof formulation, all while reducing discoloration, dullness, and enlarged pores.
The Thermal Spring Water Makeup Remover, Cleansing Water does not require rinsing. All you need is to moderately saturate a cotton pad with it and gently swipe on skin to effectively remove dirt, excess oil, and other impurities, even waterproof makeup. It is ideal for quick and easy cleansing on-the-go.
The Face Mist, meanwhile, leaves a moisture-packed veil that supports and revitalizes skin. This multi-functional face mist helps relieve five skin challenges—dehydration, enlarged pores, oiliness, makeup creases, and redness. Fifty years of colorful moments The brand marks its golden anniversary with new collections. Philstar.com/Deni Rose M. Afinidad-Bernardo
From its humble beginnings in 1968, Caronia, which is actually named after a luxury ship, celebrates its 50th anniversary with a wide collection of colors released in the past five decades.
The anniversary also sparks special collections such as Psychedelic ‘70s, Vibrant ‘80s, Iconic ‘90s, Modern 00s, and Dynamic ‘10s, creating endless possible nail art combinations for every mood.
In time for its golden year, the brand has also released a Facebook video that traces its heritage. Target root causes, not only signs Skin expert Martina Bindi. Philstar.com/Ma. Glaiza Lee
Having a great skin is much more than relying on your skincare products and beauty regimen. For skin expert Martina Bindi, it is all about knowing and respecting your skin.
“When you respect the skin, there will be no side effects. When we have sensitive skin, we start from the basic. From there, you can restore the pH level and hydration. It looks like a very simple thing, but when you restore them, the skin started working again the way it suppose to be,” shared Martina.
Our skin, she explained, has a big role to do. It serves as a insulating ammunition against extreme temperatures. It acts as a waterproof and sun shield, guarding our body from UV rays and harmful chemicals. It has antibacterial properties to prevent infection and skin diseases. It is the ultimate sensor, packed with nerves to inform the brain about the outside world.
Skin is the human’s largest organ. An adult has approximately eight pounds, 22 square feet of skin. With such versatile organ, taking good care of it is vital. We have the big responsibility to make sure that it does a good job of protecting our body, which entails a lot more than it might seem.
When an organ like the skin stop functioning the way it should, many things can go wrong. It stops defense against bacteria, UV rays and pollution, which can cause acne, dark spots, aging, inflammation, sensitive skin and other skin problems.
The first line of defense should always be organic and natural – avoiding the sun, following a skincare routine, hydrating yourself with water, having a good night sleep, eating a balance meal, among others.
Then, there are the skincare products and services. But with contrasting product reviews and opinions from experts, finding and using a product needs a lot of consideration.
“Of course, you can get fast results using chemical and aggressive treatments such as chemical peel and needles. But it will not be long-lasting because every time you don’t respect the skin, you pay a price. You have to treat your skin like how you treat silk,” said Martina.
Martina enthused that a person should not focus on the signs, but on the root cause. “We should not focus on the blemish or the wrinkles, but the physiological way of the skin to make it work. We have to restore the skin to defend itself against the environment using natural formula.”
Martina, who herself experienced skin problems, created BSoul, a natural and vegan-certified skincare line which restore the skin by targeting its physiological function. Manufactured in Tuscany, Italy, BSoul is made from bio-compatible and eco-friendly ingredients that target root causes of skin problems.
To know how the products work, one must be familiar with the skin, and how the problems occur.
The skin is made up of three layers – the epidermis (the top layer of the skin), the dermis (the second layer of skin), and the subcutaneous fat (the bottom layer). Each layer has specific functions.
The outermost layer consists of cells called keratinocytes, which is made from keratin, a tough kind of protein (the same protein in our hair and nails). These cells form several layers, which grow outwardly as the exterior cells die and flake off. Every five weeks, our body create new cells that work their way to the surface of the skin.
The dermis, meanwhile, gives the organ its strength and elasticity. Thanks to collagen and elastin. Underneath the dermis are blood vessels which help regulate body temperature by increasing blood flow to the skin and allowing heat to escape. There are also nerve fibers and receptors which send signals to the brain about touch, temperature and pain, among others. Hair follicles and glands with ducts can also be found in this skin layer, along with sweat glands, apocrine glands, and sebaceous glands.
The skin’s base layer, the subcutis, is made from a seam of fat. These are stored fats, reserved by the body in case of food shortage. It serves as insulation and cushion.
Just think about what happens when you use a harsh chemical or peel off the top layer? The epidermis begins to thin, causing the junction with the dermis to flatten. When the sun damaged the skin, it results to thicker and irregular epidermis. When you forgot to hydrate, the skin losses water and thus decreasing the sebaceous glands, and resulting to dry skin.
Sun exposure and pollution break down collagen, and impair the production of new ones. Too much exposure causes inflammation, resulting to elastin clustering into thick bundles.
Anchored on her 30 years of experience and knowledge on advanced facial and body techniques, Martia, with the help of her husband, created the BSoul physiological set. B is for bio, meaning life, while Soul is a deep feeling, Martina explained.
“The life for us is to maintain our organ, to have our organ functional so we treat it in an active way. We believe that it is important to restore the natural and real way for the skin to work. Only after that can we choose a specific way to treat if the problems remains. Of course, we also have to take care of the environment, and our health. It is important to respect the environment and the skin, at the same time, to get the best result,” said Martina.
BSoul products are available at the Linea Organica in S Maison, beside Conrad Hotel, in Pasay City. BSoul has introduced in Singapore, Malaysia, Italy and parts of Europe.
The brand also has other skin products such as the Hydra Facial Hydrating Treatment, which reduces trans-epidermal water loss, the Hydra Clear Basic Anti-Acne Treatment, which removes skin toxins to reduce skin redness, the Clear Brightening Anti-Acne to reduce inflammation and strengthen the skin’s defense against free radicals, the Hydra Lift Firming Anti-Aging that slows down skin aging, the Hydra Lift Lifting Anti-Aging which awakens cell metabolism, the Hydra Double Chin Anti-Double Chin Treatment that drains water retention and fats under the chin area, among others. Ho, ho, ho to a whiter Christmas The brand boasts of skincare safe to be used by teens and tweens.
For fairer, sun-protected skin these holidays and beyond, Skin White introduces its skincare range of soaps and lotions for teens and adults.
Formulated with Instant White formula, the brand promises to safely attack three stages of melanin production and help one achieve white skin with continuous use. The range reportedly also contains antioxidants and sun protection to shield skin from harmful ultraviolet rays.
For teens, the brand offers skincare with Vitanourish Formula Fruity floral scents infused with Light Feel Technology, so teens can enjoy the outdoors without the sticky feel. Get the look: Fashion Week hairstyles Sam MacKnight for Balmain
Dyson continues to be to partner with hairstylist of top celebrities for this year’s Fashion Week events. The brand recently supported Paris Fashion Week, specifically, main hairstylists Sam MacKnight at Balmain’s show and Paul Hanlon at Paco Rabanne’s show.
Here is a step-by-step guide to achieve the looks.
Sam MacKnight for Balmain: “Balmain was pure. Sculpted wet masculine hair, to compliment the architecture of the clothes. Sexily androgynous, very Parisienne, very Helmut Newton. Hair all straightened with our trusty Dyson first though and set with a diffuser after to hold the shape.”
Get the look: Place a deep side parting with a tail comb. Section the hair into 3 sections. One section at the back, and one on either side. Apply gel to the roots beginning at the nape of the neck and work up the head to the crown. Combing roots flats as you go. Apply mousse from root to ends of hair. Comb through with a wide tooth comb. Repeat on the other two sections, and through the top. Comb through all the hair with a wide toothed comb into shape keeping some lift at the front. Cover hair with an Airtex net and diffuse dry with the Dyson Supersonic hair dryer professional edition on a high speed with low heat. Once set turn the Dyson Pro hairdryer onto a high speed with a cold setting.
Paul Hanlon for Paco Rabanne: The concept for the hair came from an independent free spirited woman who loves to travel. The streets of India were a big inspiration and the hair reflected how women wear their hair in extreme heat. Hair was twisted together, lifted from the neck and tendrils fell and rested on the skin of the face and nape.
Get the look: Hair was prepped with Queen for the day and then parted in the centre and brushed apart to create clean sections. A single braid was taken from an inch below the crown. Two identical triangular shaped sections were taken from the occipital bone to the nape of the neck. With the end of the braid being split into two sections and added to each triangle. This hair was then clipped out of the way for the moment. The remaining hair was brushed with fingers towards the nape of the neck and tied into two low ponytails, one on either side of the head. The triangular sections are now dropped over the top of either side of the low pony tails. The hair was then twisted together to create a loose rope effect. These two twisted ponytails were then woven together to create a textured almost knotted shape. This was clipped with concealed pins on the underneath to hold the shape in place. The look is then fixed with a hair net, Elnett hairspray and a controlled blast of cool air from the Dyson Supersonic hair dryer professional edition. Moments before the models step onto the catwalk tendrils of hair were pushed into the face and a mist of water was sprayed onto the hair to give a wet effect. Paul Hanlon for Paco Rabanne

Comment on Stop Wasting Your Money on These Skincare Products by Mellisa Smith

Home Women’s Health Stop Wasting Your Money on These Skincare Products Stop Wasting Your Money on These Skincare Products Save your hard earned cash. Skip these products and stick with an affordable well-formulated moisturizer and high SPF sunscreen instead. By Share Source Image: Pixabay.com
A recent study revealed that the average woman uses between 9 and 15 personal skin care products daily. With the average product containing 15-50 different ingredients,
the average woman exposes herself daily to an estimated 515 chemicals through cosmetic use alone.
This article examines the products that you should feel free to ditch if you are worried about being overexposed to chemical ingredients in your skincare routine. Besides the lack of scientific evidence proving any skin health benefits, in some cases, the following products may prove to be harmful to otherwise healthy skin.
Major cosmetic manufacturers go to great lengths to produce safe skincare products. It is the manufacturers’ responsibility to assure the safety of eye creams, anti-aging/anti-wrinkle creams, serums, cleaners, sunscreens, primers, toners, astringents, ampoules of antioxidants, night creams, body lotions, gels, and more, to the tune of $135 billion dollars globally per year.
It is important to understand that harm from any chemical is dependent on the dose of the exposure, not the exposure itself, as every chemical has a dose below which no harm is done. Despite this fact, many consumers still desire to minimize ingredient exposure. Are these products good for my skin?
The first step is to ask whether a particular skincare product is really necessary. Many skincare products feel good , but have you ever asked yourself, “Are these products good for my skin?”
Scientific studies have clearly shown the health benefits of applying daily sunscreen. With rare exception, skincare experts universally agree that sunscreen should be applied daily, liberally and often. RELATED STORY: The One Absolutely Amazing Secret That Will Change Your Skin
In addition, maximizing skin hydration allows the skin to function optimally, and in some cases, even improves skin conditions like acne, rosacea, and eczema. And yes, the overwhelming majority of dermatologists encourage regular moisturizer application. Moisturize and apply sunscreen but make your judgments on the products below. Exfoliants and scrubs
Skin is the largest organ of the body. It is the protective barrier to germs, viruses, allergens, and ultraviolet light. But its ability to create a barrier to water loss is its most crucial function. The most superficial layer of skin is composed of layers of cells, designed like a brick wall.
Each skin cell is surrounded by a protective waterproofing layer of fat. One can swim in an ocean or a pool for hours; nothing passes into or out of the skin thanks to this fatty layer. Each superficial cell contains sponge-like compounds that help absorb water into the skin from the deeper layers. Basically, the skin moisturizes itself! That’s why the skin on individuals, who never, or rarely moisturize, doesn’t chip and crack and fall onto the sidewalk.
The 15 – 20 skin layers at the very surface of the skin are responsible for maintaining skin hydration. You need them. Although there are several skin procedures that pride themselves on stripping cells at the surface of this necessary layer, and yes, it may temporarily feel good , there is little, if any, scientific evidence that shows removing these layers, and stripping the very cells that maintain the skin’s water barrier, is healthy. Also note, inflammation from exfoliants and scrubs can cause pigmentary changes in the skin and may even leave the skin more vulnerable to infection.
If you have healthy skin, forget the exfoliants and scrubs. Yes, they remove a few dead cells, some dirt, and a bit of oil, but they also remove the necessary proteins and lipids that the skin needs to maintain hydration. For individuals with oily skin or for those who are acne prone, see a dermatologist. Primers
The most commonly expressed purpose of a primer is to prepare the facial skin for foundation and makeup. Some women apply primers after the moisturizer while others apply them before. There are no specific ingredients in primers that aren’t found in facial moisturizers. Your face is not a wall preparing for paint, you don’t need a primer. A well-formulated moisturizer will do. Toners
Toner, the skincare product that is as varied in the formulation as is the list of their alleged benefits. The benefits touted by health and beauty magazines for toners are endless.
Toners supposedly do all of these things: cleanse shrink pores (note: like the length of your arm, pore size does not change), remove dust, pollen, and pollution, hydrate,
