In 2018 I discovered Bondi Sands , Australia’s number one best selling self-tanner and I’m SO glad I did! Bondi Sands has a huge selection of self-tanners in every form: foam, lotions, mists, dry oils and accessories. My favorite in the line is the One Hour Express Tanning Foam . Infused with a scent of coconut, it has NO yucky chemical tanner smell and it’s so ultra lightweight it absorbs instantly and is never sticky. I have spoken many times about how I love Vitamin C for my sun spots and this collection made the most positive impact on my skin in 2018. A lot of people tell me I don’t look my age. I tell them thank you and that it’s all about the skin routine. Over the past few years my skin routine has become a priority for me and I’m always trying to refine it. This past year I finally found a face wash that I love but I’m still trying to perfect my routine and find the best products for my skin.
I recently went to the dermatologist for my yearly screening (I highly recommend this for everyone. It’s considered preventative so your insurance covers it) and asked for advice regarding a night moisturizer. She said anything with Retinol will work as Retinol is anti-aging.
The Routine Before we get into the Retinol search details, let me back it up and share my current face routine.
Outside of what I put on my face I do the follow:
Water. 9/10 I’m drinking water. There’s the occasional sweet tea, lemonade, alcoholic beverage, or tea but most of the time I’m drinking water. With lemon. Refreshing and great for the skin! Food. Fast food is irregular in our house along with frozen or processed foods. I’m not saying we never eat those foods but they’re not a regular occurrence in our diet. Sun screen. Every damn day. I have SPF in my body lotion, in my face moisturizer, and in my foundation. I also avoid the sun. Sun damage is irreversible so protect yourself. Sleep. I like sleeping and my skin is appreciative for making it a priority. Now for my routine. Obviously broken up into the morning and night versions.
Morning Cleanse. Formula 10.0.6 Best Face Forward Daily Foaming Cleanser is my cleanser of choice. It’s gentle but keeps my face clear. I might have a breakout here and there but it’s not as frequent as it used to be. Hydrate. I’ve been using CeraVe Facial Moisturizing Lotion AM w/ Sunscreen for a few months. It’s light and my skin doesn’t get super oily later in the day when I use this. I may use an additional moisturizer if my face is feeling more dry than usual, usually in the winter. I used to use St. Ives Collagen Elastin Face Moisturizer Timeless Skin as my moisturizer but switched to CeraVe for two reasons. 1- CeraVe has SPF and 2- St. Ives no longer makes the Timeless Skin version of this moisturizer. While it’s replacement contains most of the same ingredients, it’s still difficult to find in stores. Extra. I also try to do a face mask 2-3 times a week. I’m still trying to find my go-to mask but I know that I don’t like sheet masks. Night Cleanse. I use Up & Up’s Oil-Free Eye Makeup Remover and their Refreshing Wet Cleansing Towelettes to remove my makeup. Double Cleanse. I use Say Yes To Tomatoes Micellar Water after removing my makeup or just at the end of the day if I haven’t worn anything. I used the cucumber version but prefer the tomatoes one because it helps keep my skin more clear. Hydrate. This is where I continue to use the St. Ives Timeless Skin. Ideally I’d like to replace it with a night cream because as I mentioned above, St. Ives doesn’t make this version any more plus it’s in a tub which isn’t the most hygienic. Extra. Two years ago I started using Olay Pro X with the Exfoliating Renewal Cleanser and Microdermabrasion Plus Advanced Cleanser. I’ve gotten out of the habit but loved the results so I need to get back in the habit. The Search I recently used a sample of bareminerals SkinLongevity Vital Power Infusion Serum and it was awesome. I loved the way it made my skin feel but the price was steep. A coworker mentioned a serum she uses — LdeL Cosmetics Retinol Anti-Wrinkle Facial Serum. She gets it at TJ Maxx and her skin looks fantastic! No wrinkles, crows feet, or smile lines. I decided I had to give it a shot. But I wanted to add more than just a serum to my routine. I definitely wanted a nighttime moisturizer/cream and I want to incorporate a serum into both my morning and nighttime routine. How does one keep track of all this? With a spreadsheet, of course!
The first one listed, Olay Regenerist Micro-Scultping Serum, I’ve already tried and I liked the way it made my face feel. I’m not sure it’s a contender because of the lack of retinol but I’m going to leave it on the sheet to give it a fair shot. The highlighted product, Neutrogena Rapid Wrinkle Repair Serum, is what I’m currently using. I also made a pit stop at TJ Maxx and picked up some other lovelies for my skin.
I won’t be posting every review on this blog because I actually have one dedicated to beauty on tumblr . I am hopeful that I’ll be able to post a follow-up with the final routine at the end of the year so you can always wait around for that.
TL;DR Treating your skin right is important so you don’t look old AF.
